The Estefans are like that boyfriend/husband that continuously beats on his woman and we, Miami Cubans, are the girlfriend/wife who hates him at that moment, but always returns to the man that beats her. They left a bitter taste in my mouth when they collaborated with Carlos Santana after he wore a che guevara t-shirt to a the Oscars in 2005. After the latest news, the bitter taste has returned and this time it is here to stay permanently. They may do a lot for Cuba, but for them to host a fundraiser for President Obama who has his sights on turning America into a socialist country is absurd considering they had to flee their country for the same reason. -americaisunderattack*****

What the Estefans don’t understand at this point is that regardless of all this political close relationshing they think they’re developing with Obama (thinking that it will help them influence Cuba policy); that at the end it won’t succeed in bringing freedom and democracy to Cuba; because Obama will find a way to betray the Estefans too and continue embracing the Castro brothers. That’s the bottom line.
What I must tell everyone on this blog is that I won’t ever again join any more marches or any more events organized by the Estefans regardless how noble the cause, they won’t fool me twice. -FreedomForCuba

It looks like the Estefans would like Miami to be a little Habana in more ways than one. Wahiro you have drunk the kool aid it seems. Everything the Estefan's claim they want to rid Cuba of they are bringing upon the US. Wake up. Or are the Estefans nust neocomms? They like the socialism , but just not the methodology. -pototo

This is not new or any surprise coming from those two. Remember Carlos Santana wearing a Che t-shirt on the Grammys? Well, following act Gloria Estefan had him on one of her records with no care while the likes of obscure and cash straped anti-Castro performers like Rey Vikingo ("Hasta Cuando") or Gorki Aguila haven't received any attention from them.
I have already seen enough of those two to realize that on the subject at hand they are a pair of superficial come-mierda$ (yes, that's come-mierdas with $) without any true position or care on the matter. Yes, she has said this and that about Castro, so what, what else is she going to say. One thing is saying to be anti-communist, that's easy, another thing is to truly have the position and maturity to follow through and mean anything by it. -Gallardo
And then there was Babalu's Founding Editor Val Prieto...
I can see absolutely NO POSITIVE outcome to donating to the DNC. NONE WHATSOEVER. For Cuba, or for the US.So it should be interesting this Sunday when Emilio Estefan sets up shop just down the hall from Babalu Blog's booth at Cuba Nostalgia. Not that I think anything will happen. Maybe a few scowls will be cast Emilio's way immediately followed by a profanity-laced tweet claiming victory over liberals and communists and, of course, Fidel Castro.
One need only look to see what's happening in this country as proof of the above.
from now on, the Estefans can kiss my ass.
No, Mr. Estefan will probably finish his book signing, shake a few hands, pose for a few pictures and then glide back over to his million dollar home on Miami Beach while thinking of ways to positively promote the experience of the Cuban-American exile and influence the political process with a class and dignity that is sorely missing in these parts.

Val? Sounds Russian. Better have him checked out just in case he really a Castro agent.
I think you are highly misinformed; Val and Emilio are very friendly and have actually spent lots of time together...I know its easy for you to feel powerful and important here on the web but can your words written from your living room as you watch tv actually make a difference or bring change...I would have to say NO! They will only bring even more division to an already divided community. The Estefan have and will continue to roll of their sleeves for freedom & human rights not only for Cuban but for all oppressed nations. Listen I’m all for freedom of speech but I hate lies and division…isn’t that how Fidel fooled our island in ‘59

That is hilarious hypocrisy. Talking tough on the internet about Castro when your hundreds of miles and an ocean away is really making a difference and bringing change. I'm sure Castro just shakes in his boots when he reads Babalu Blog.
